The Turnabout Voicetest

This is a voice test for Phoenix Wright of Ace Attorney fame! Feel free to throw people here.

Some general guidelines:

-I'm primarily testing him with a Dual Destinies canon point. I still am welcoming of a few prompts for earlier time periods and possibly AUs, though, as long as they don't dominate. (Except that I don't think I can brain Hobo!Phoenix at this time)
-Nothing really explicitly shippy; I don't think I even have any shipping preferences with him just yet. But general fluff is fine.
-I'm not exactly sure about specific kinds of scenarios I'd like to play beyond one: working to unlock someone's Psych-Locks? And maybe emotional canon talks.
-Feel free to plunder the Random Scenario Meme for ideas (Leaving out sex of course)? I also welcome generic jamjar scenarios and text message threads.

Court is now in session!

[It was a simple plan devised for a hurting friend: Channel his best friend, who'd lost his life just the month before, to catch up one last time and get an opportunity to say goodbye. Maya was still busy with her training, everlasting as it seemed to be, but Pearl was entirely willing after seeing Apollo so down on the dumps on a regular basis.

It was meant to be a surprise, so Apollo didn't know. He wasn't due back for a little while; also part of the plan, in order to get his friend Clay caught up on things.

When it was time for the channeling, Phoenix had been told to keep out of the room to let Pearl concentrate, only coming in when he heard Clay's voice. Which he will definitely hear, just a few minutes later, when a voice very unlike Pearl's yells out loudly:]

AAAHHHHHH!

[Guess who didn't read the note Pearl left to help him figure out what's going on.]

[Did you feel safe, Wright? Did you think that just because Franziska was (technically) from your past at her point in recollection you would be allowed reprieve from her very just and very snappish wrath?

Well, Phoenix Wright, you are not safe.

Not even in whatever office you're in at this very moment because Franziska von Karma, prosecuting prodigy, just slammed the door open and is looking for blood. She's actually looking for that lout, Gumshoe, but hey, Phoenix Wright is a convenient scapegoat, isn't he?
]

Phoenix Wright. I thought I sensed some foolishness about this case when it came to my desk. I should have known you were behind it.

[Guess who didn't wake up when her alarm went off due to researching and trying to familiarize herself with the evidence for their next trial. So here comes Athena flying into the agency, toast in mouth and her messenger bag crossed over her chest. The door slamming open and...]

I'm so sorry that I'm late! Widget didn't wake me up and I hurried here!

[Prison break! Prison break!!! ...Or, well, hospital wing break, to be more precise. You'd think getting shot in the chest would keep a guy down for a couple of weeks, but not this guy. And you'd think all the security posted in and around his room would keep a guy from leaving the hospital wing, but not this guy. He's just too damn good at what he does, and really, IV cords work great when it comes to strangling people. Not to mention, the place is ripe with ingenious doctor disguises that just about anyone can swipe if they're stealthy enough.

Point is, the Phantom's on the loose and would be halfway to Mexico by now if his real face wasn't registered in every criminal databank.

What's also problematic is that he doesn't want to walk around with his real face out in the open. It feels unnatural. It feels wrong. He doesn't know who this person is. It's like being a complete stranger. That's why he went out of his way to retrieve a spare mask from one of his secret hideouts. He had only one mask left. It's another face that'll draw unwanted attention, but it's preferable to no face at all. All he needs is to get some supplies so he can craft a new mask, one he can use to cross the border and disappear into the masses of another country. Some latex, colored lenses, a convincing wig he can use for hair... Really, he's done this so many times he can dream it and he knows exactly which stores to visit to get what he needs.

Bobby Fulbright is making his way down the street. He's moving a little slower than he usually would because, well, he was shot last week. He lost a lot of blood back then and it still hasn't quite healed. Even so, he'll move through the pain if it means escaping death row and endless questioning from Interpol. He's trying to keep to himself, avoiding people as he passes them.

Gee, wouldn't it be awful if someone who knows that Bobby Fulbright is supposed to be dead happens to spot him?]

I never said anything about it being a good morning, Phoenix Wright.

[Franziska doesn't waste a moment in showing her disdain, folding her arms over her chest. The office is much too small for her tastes. Where does one put the 78 inch plasma display for working case files? It would hardly fit on the walls here. How sad.]

And how should I know what your fool brain is capable of piecing together? Only a fool can understand another fool. [Which is why she is here looking for Gumshoe. He is late and lost as usual, which made the little vein in Franziska's forehead want to twitch with annoyance. Instead, she grips one sleeve and frowns.] Where is he?

[Much as he tries to be casual and not seem like he's on the run from someone, he casts enough glances around to catch a glimpse of that familiar blue suit. Phoenix Wright is headed his way. Phoenix Wright is headed his way.

Just for a split second, he experiences something unpleasant. Just for a split second, his mind makes the connection from lawyer to courtroom to being forced to face fear to getting shot. That breakdown did a real number on him. Now that he's had a taste of fear, he knows for a fact he doesn't want to experience it again. The unpleasant feeling is hastily suppressed. He can't allow some simple lawyer to get the best of him. He's better than that. He's the Phantom.

...No, he's not the Phantom. He's Bobby Fulbright. Who else would he be?

He tries to pretend he didn't see Phoenix, speeding up his pace. His best line of defense, right now, is to play the fool. To become the fool. Quite a few cover stories are already spinning inside his head. Cover stories that will become truths, because he needs to believe it in order to be it.]

[It's definitely for the best that Phoenix is being subtle about this, because the Phantom is not above silencing people who try to expose him by force. Silencing people comes with risks of its own, of course, which is why he'd much rather avoid such measures. As it is, he has plenty of liberty to do his thing without anyone getting hurt.

A deep huff of breath, a blink, then he stops walking and turns to face Phoenix. His expression is one of confusion. A bit of shock in there- yes, just a hint of it. That's it. He has his story and he needs his behavior to reflect it.]

Oh? ...Oh! You're that lawyer, right?

[Edgeworth is compiling and fixing some files on a certain case both he and Phoenix wrapped up. The defendant ended up not guilty, which meant it was yet another loss for Edgeworth, but the latter is taking it well because hey, at least the truth was revealed in the end. What he doesn't know, however, is that someone has slipped a little something - a Chinese finger trap - into his files as a prank, and it has found its way onto his finger. The files, however, are blocking his view of that particular finger.]

That case certainly went as well as I expected, Wright. I suppose I should thank you again.

[A sheet of paper suddenly slips out from the stack he's organizing, and it flutters to the floor.]

As they say, "when push comes to shove". I only did what I could when all my hints sailed over your head.

[Whatever happened to being thankful, Edgeworth?

At least all he does when part of his file falls is nod and accept the paper from Phoenix. No more additional banter there. However, in doing so, he uses the hand with the Chinese finger trap - and it locks onto Phoenix's finger as well.]

[And now there's a guy screaming at him. Only one way to react to that, it seems.]

AAAAHHHHHH!

[Clay is, of course, in Pearl's clothes, with her haircolor and style, back against the wall as if he flung himself across the floor in shock rather than stay put like he should have. Sure, he was still a very restless spirit who wasn't used to being dead, but he certainly wasn't expecting to suddenly be physical, and in someone else's clothes and -

And - Wait...

This guy's familiar. Sort of. He'd never met him before, but he's seen enough pictures, read enough headlines, heard his best friend talk about him so often, and even seen him in the few times he went to the courtroom itself to know who it is. It's that realizes that makes his own scream die down, though he still looks shaken at the very least.]

[He peers down at that badge with mild interest. Usually, this would be the part where Bobby whips out his own badge and prattles on about justice, but he's not exactly at liberty to do that right now. He doesn't even have that badge anymore.]

Oh, that's Wright- I mean right! [He laughs loudly and slams a hand down on Phoenix's shoulder.] Hey, great job exposing that mean ol' spy in court last week! You guys sure got him good!

[ With Athena joining the Wright Anything Agency, things surely did get much livelier. It was already noisy with Apollo practicing his Chords of Steel at 6-o'clock in the morning, or with Trucy fixing up her Mr. Hat acts and then sending Apollo into a Chords of Steel screaming fit, but what's that saying? The more yelling, the merrier?

Definitely.

But things are not all fun and games! With Athena determined to bring a breath of fresh air into the courtrooms, she wanted to discuss and teach psychology to her peers. At the same time, she wanted to learn more about her boss' and colleague's and how their minds worked. It would help a lot with team chemistry, amongst other things. They all already worked well together; Athena knew that, but an activity like practicing detecting lies seemed like a good idea in theory. Not to mention, she could sure learn more about Apollo's bracelet or her boss' magatama - or whatever it was called. It was slightly difficult to pronounce.

Athena even suggested coming up with fake scenarios where they would portray made-up people with made-up problems. She already had her character ready, and was excited to act it out!

Except... ]

Apollo sure is late today, boss.

[Another look of pleasant surprise washes over him. He retracts his hand again, placing it on his own hip instead.]

Hm? Why are you asking me that? It's not like I could watch the trial in person. That would've gotten messy.
