The Turnabout Voicetest

This is a voice test for Phoenix Wright of Ace Attorney fame! Feel free to throw people here.

Some general guidelines:

-I'm primarily testing him with a Dual Destinies canon point. I still am welcoming of a few prompts for earlier time periods and possibly AUs, though, as long as they don't dominate. (Except that I don't think I can brain Hobo!Phoenix at this time)
-Nothing really explicitly shippy; I don't think I even have any shipping preferences with him just yet. But general fluff is fine.
-I'm not exactly sure about specific kinds of scenarios I'd like to play beyond one: working to unlock someone's Psych-Locks? And maybe emotional canon talks.
-Feel free to plunder the Random Scenario Meme for ideas (Leaving out sex of course)? I also welcome generic jamjar scenarios and text message threads.

[ With Athena joining the Wright Anything Agency, things surely did get much livelier. It was already noisy with Apollo practicing his Chords of Steel at 6-o'clock in the morning, or with Trucy fixing up her Mr. Hat acts and then sending Apollo into a Chords of Steel screaming fit, but what's that saying? The more yelling, the merrier?

Definitely.

But things are not all fun and games! With Athena determined to bring a breath of fresh air into the courtrooms, she wanted to discuss and teach psychology to her peers. At the same time, she wanted to learn more about her boss' and colleague's and how their minds worked. It would help a lot with team chemistry, amongst other things. They all already worked well together; Athena knew that, but an activity like practicing detecting lies seemed like a good idea in theory. Not to mention, she could sure learn more about Apollo's bracelet or her boss' magatama - or whatever it was called. It was slightly difficult to pronounce.

Athena even suggested coming up with fake scenarios where they would portray made-up people with made-up problems. She already had her character ready, and was excited to act it out!

Except... ]

Apollo sure is late today, boss.

[Things sure have been getting more lively in their little office. And it's a bit of an adjustment, having to be a boss and a role model for his lawyers.

Still, he was interested in Athena's potential and what she could bring to the table with her psychological techniques. This whole fake scenario idea sounded like a good exercise, and he was looking forward to it. But what could be keeping Apollo?

Phoenix nods thoughtfully at Athena.]

He is. It's not like him. [He doubts it's serious though - maybe making a joke will help cement that!] Think he tripped over his Chords of Steal?

[ Apollo seemed slightly more focused and together in Athena's mind, but Phoenix did know him better... ]

Ugh, you think?

[ The lack of punctuality was dampening Athena's mood. She was really excited for this day, especially since they haven't had much actual cases lately. Helping out with Trucy's acts did not count, nor did finding that missing dog the other day. It would have been nice to apply some actual logic to things at work. ]

Do you want to start without him? We can just give him a hard time later and lie five hundred and fifty-two times.

[It's just a joke, Athena...]

Something must be holding him up, I'm sure of that much!

[He takes a moment to think it over. It does make sense to reward the one who's on time and punish the one who's late. Even if the on-time one sees more work as a reward...]

You know what? Sure, let's do that. [He assumes a confident pose.] He'll just be missing out on some valuable experience! So Athena, do you want to try at being a witness first, or would you like me to?

I was so excited for all of us to be here on time, too.

[ Oh well. You snooze, you lose, Apollo! I'm taking this! ]

And I could go first as a witness, no problem. It won't be like a testimony, won't it? It'll just be like a normal interrogation?

I'm sure things will come together next time. [A sage nod. He doesn't imagine Apollo being less than punctual in the future.]

That's right, Athena. Talking to witnesses before investigations are important, because it's a good chance to get information out of them before the prosecution puts their talons into them. [A timely metaphor, considering the current eccentric prosecutor.] The more of the truth we can uncover before entering the courtroom, the better chance we'll have of things coming together in the defense's favor.

Alright.

[ If there was one thing that would psyche Athena up, it was learning! And her boss actually talking like an instructor made this particular experience even more exciting. She really has so much to learn, and there was no better time to start but now!

Adopting a persona could hide the discord in one's voices, but it might be different when it came to hiding secrets. On her part, she just had to think of an elaborate secret.

She checks her files. Here's to hoping it would work. ]

I'm a university graduate who moved states to go to law school, but I could be a potential suspect to the murder. [ She didn't want to come up with a fake murder scenario, but... when most of their cases were about murder, she couldn't help it.

Her made-up mystery has the following items in the court record: a diamond ring, some books about law, a bunch of fashion-related magazines, et cetera. Those three just seem to relate more to this particular witness than any others in the profiles. Other people related to the fake case includes the victim, John Doe; Davis Matthews, a law school student; amongst other butchered names from a familiar movie. ~~Athena was likely watching it the other night.~~

She already had the secret in mind, it was just up to Phoenix to start asking questions to bring it into light. ]

[He had hoped that came across well. He's still relatively new to this whole teaching role ~~and to being less of a trolly hobo mentor~~.

Phoenix listens attentively and rifles through the court record yo get the basics down. He hadn't seen the script before ~~and always sleeps through the movie~~ so he's interested at what twists might be in store.]

Alright. I'm ready to get started. [He nods, and then he puts on more of a generically friendly face as he grabs a seat and sits across from her.]

Hello. My name's Phoenix Wright, and I'll be representing you in court today. [He presents his attorney's badge.]

[ She by no means has a distinguishing accent, but for this act, she tries to talk with a lighter and airy tone. And a soft country accent.

Who knows what's on her mind? ]

Oh, Mr. Wright. Thank you so much. If there's anything you need to know, I'll be happy to tell you.

[ She seems to be struggling with the accent, but she continues, anyway. ]

I haven't done a crime in my entire life!

[Who knows what on her mind indeed. Phoenix is sure that all leading researchers would be puzzled.]

Not even a tiny misdemeanor, huh...? [He says that with some flatness before goes on.]

Well, why don't you tell me about what happened? From your point of view.

[ She clears her throat as she puts her hands together and sits like a dainty little girl. ]

Well, I had just arrived from the airport and was looking for my dorm room. I was assigned to room 605 in the girl's building, so that's where I went. But when I opened the door, there was already someone there, and he was dead!

[ She lets out a gasp, trying to re-enact the exact moment. ]

Oh me, oh my, I didn't know what to do. And now, I'm being blamed for stangling him. I didn't do anything, Mr. Wright. I just moved here, and I don't even know anyone in this school! I've done nothing wrong!

[ Those last two statements may have been a bit too forceful and defensive. Three psychlocks appear before her, for anyone with a Magatama to see. There was definitely a secret there, and she seemed intent to keep it to herself. Three secrets to her identity, one of which pertaining to whether she hasn't done anything wrong or not.

She totally didn't fly to a different state to stalk her ex-boyfriend because he dumped her for "law school". ]

[So you just moved there to have a good time and you're honestly feeling so attacked right now...

The Magatama's glowing, and Phoenix indicates it; it's an educational experience for Athena, after all. And then he begins to use it, as he talks calmly to Athena.]

Miss. You say that you didn't know anyone at that school. But is that really true?

[ Well, this was it.

She's already seen Phoenix in action with the Magatama, and he was using it on her, no less. But still, she didn't know much about it to just shrug it off like it was a normal thing. It makes her slightly tense, but that wasn't going to be enough pressure to crack her. She continues on with the act. ]

Of course it's true. Everyone here is a total stranger!

Every last person? I'm sorry, but I'm finding it hard to believe that this person [He presents a photo of the stranger.] was a stranger to you.

[ Lets out a sharp gasp, and her face gets filled with despair. That was sooo not her ex-boyfriend. ]

What- How did you know about him?

[ That was one lie revealed, and her secret seems to be slightly clearer now. One psychlock breaks.

She won't give up, though. That wasn't enough to make her spill. ]

I mean, whatever! He's just an acquaintance. We aren't connected in any way.

Just an acquaintance? Normally, I'd take your word for that. But it's hard for me to do that when it contrasts with the evidence.

For example... Why was he found in your dorm room?

((I'm dumb and totally missed the "stranger" there, OOPS. I had thought of a different character :/b I'll KEEP TRUCKING WITH THIS BS CASE ANYWAY!!))

You tell me! I wouldn't invite a stranger to my room. Maybe my roommate asked him to come over. I don't know.

Besides, what evidence do you have that I know him? Nothing!

[ It's not like you have a picture of us together or anything! Or do you. ]

[I did actually mean to say victim up there I have no idea what's going on but trucking on anyway?!]

Actually, Miss, concerning what you just said... what would you call this? [He presents the photo of her with the 'stranger' or victim or whoever!]

How did you get that?!

[ Another psychlock breaks. ]

That was a picture taken four years ago. And we've lost contact since then! I never want to talk to that guy, especially after he dumped me!

It was found on the victim's person.

[He taps the photograph.]

It looks like this picture is helping us get a cleared "picture" of what happened. Even if you don't want to talk to him now, you've just admitted that you do have a connection. And a romantic one at that.

Are you on my side, or what? You said you were going to defend me, but you're just like the cops!

[ She crosses her arms and looks away. ]

And you're right about that. I don't want to talk to him. So why would I make him go to my room? Answer me what, Mr. Hairgel!

[This should be a vital part. I have to show Athena how important it is to earn a client's trust, even when they aren't happy about an outcome.]

I do intend to defend you, Miss X. But I can't defend you with lies. These are all holes that the prosecution could dig into as well, and that would only make things worse. The only way I can truly defend you is by knowing the truth.

[He tries to look sincerely towards her, regardless of whether she's still turned away.]

And I think I have an idea of why he was there. It has to do with this, didn't it. [And he presents the ring.]
