The Turnabout Voicetest
This is a voice test for Phoenix Wright of Ace Attorney fame! Feel free to throw people here.
Some general guidelines:
-I'm primarily testing him with a Dual Destinies canon point. I still am welcoming of a few prompts for earlier time periods and possibly AUs, though, as long as they don't dominate. (Except that I don't think I can brain Hobo!Phoenix at this time)
-Nothing really explicitly shippy; I don't think I even have any shipping preferences with him just yet. But general fluff is fine.
-I'm not exactly sure about specific kinds of scenarios I'd like to play beyond one: working to unlock someone's Psych-Locks? And maybe emotional canon talks.
-Feel free to plunder the Random Scenario Meme for ideas (Leaving out sex of course)? I also welcome generic jamjar scenarios and text message threads.
Court is now in session!

Mister Terran, please calm down!
[Ground control to Major Terran...]

AAAAHHHHHH!
[Clay is, of course, in Pearl's clothes, with her haircolor and style, back against the wall as if he flung himself across the floor in shock rather than stay put like he should have. Sure, he was still a very restless spirit who wasn't used to being dead, but he certainly wasn't expecting to suddenly be physical, and in someone else's clothes and -
And - Wait...
This guy's familiar. Sort of. He'd never met him before, but he's seen enough pictures, read enough headlines, heard his best friend talk about him so often, and even seen him in the few times he went to the courtroom itself to know who it is. It's that realizes that makes his own scream die down, though he still looks shaken at the very least.]
M... Mister Wright?
no subject
Mr. Terran. [He nods.] You recognize me? [In retrospect, it's probably a given that Apollo would have talked about him. And he has kind of been in a news a lot, between the scandal years ago and everything associated with his more recent comeback.]
Please read the note in front of you.
no subject
These aren't his clothes, that's definitely to be sure. And his hair doesn't feel right. But he's... alive? Somehow? After a month of wandering, sometimes following his friend, sometimes drifting to the stars, but never really staying put anywhere?]
... Oh! Right, the note... [Note, yes. With yet another nod, Clay scoots himself forward to the note, which he had flung himself away from before he could even see it was there, and reads it to himself.
... ... ...]
Channeling? [He mostly says it to himself in the middle of reading, like he hadn't even thought of that. But it makes sense, doesn't it? Like that famous case of 2019...]
no subject
That's right. Your spirit's being channeled by one of those most gifted channelers I know. For the time being, welcome back.
no subject
For the time being, huh? [That's... kind of a disappointment, even though he knew it was utterly impossible to just come back to life. He lets the note drift to the floor again with a long sigh, like he's just heard a lot of information at once, and drifts his hand up as if to grip the edge of a visor that isn't even there. He tries to save face by smoothing a hand through his hair, much like Apollo would when he's nervous.] Glad to... be back?
[He looks up at Phoenix with a somewhat lopsided grin, a question in his gaze.
Why am I here?
Not that he's ungrateful; really, the sensation of being physical and having life, even for a moment, is still sinking in, and he's starting to feel a warm, happy sensation from having even just a moment of being alive again. But why bring him back "for the time being"?]
no subject
You might be wondering why you're here. But the answer should be pretty obvious.
It's about Apollo. We arranged this as a surprise for him. Mr. Terran, I feel like you'll both be in favor of being able to meet one more time. Don't you agree?
[He knows what it feels like. Every time he's seen Mia after her death has been like a blessing. Apollo deserves to feel something like that too. And Clay... another chance to talk to Apollo is the least of what he deserves.]
no subject
His gaze goes distant as he nods slowly at first, his thoughts completely elsewhere. It was pretty obvious, but hearing Phoenix say it right then and there...
He remembers trailing Apollo for a little while, being there when it really hit that Clay was dead, and how utterly helpless he felt knowing that there was nothing he could do to cheer him up. No matter how loud he shouted, Apollo couldn't hear him. No matter how much Clay pushed his hands through his shoulders, Apollo couldn't feel him. "You're Apollo Justice and you're fine!", and... nothing. He didn't even get to tell him a proper goodbye...
And, well. That's that. Maybe Clay's still a little disappointed that he won't get to stay longer (because he loved life so much, and he was so close to his goal and never made it), but that's not really important.]
Yeah... [He jumps to his feet, though he stumbles at first because whoa, balance, damn you gravity, and gives a much brighter grin, hands curled into fists.] Yeah! Is he here now? Do I need to hide behind a chair or something? Just tell me what to do, Mr. Wright!
no subject
One step at a time, Mr. Terran. He's not here yet, and we have some time to burn still. If you want to go for a hiding space, be my guest. Just as long as you don't give the poor guy a heart attack... [He's seen enough people with extreme heart problems a few months ago.]
no subject
Clay's already looking around the room for a suitable place to hide, but he'd rather not spend the whole time hiding and yelling at Phoenix from his spot. So with that in mind, he gives the other man his attention again.]
We've got some time, right? So... [He steps forward and holds out his hand to shake.] Hey, Mr. Wright! I'm Clay Terran - you can just call me Clay. Apollo told me a lot about you; it's a huge honor to finally meet you.
no subject
The pleasure's all mine. Believe it or not, Apollo talks a lot about you, too. [Present tense.] And I'm Phoenix Wright... You can call me Phoenix, or Nick. [He presents his badge with his free hand.]
no subject
Phoenix. Makes you sound really stellar.
[... And there's the badge. Clay pulls his hand back to place both of them on his hips, leaning in to admire the badge with a grin.]
Hey, you do it too! Yours looks a lot shinier than Pollo's, though. [Probably because Phoenix only recently got his badge back and all.] Were you the one who taught him to present everything?
no subject
That's right! You'd be hard-pressed to find a better teacher when it comes to presenting things. [Never mind whether or not it's the right evidence...] But Apollo really picked up on that one nicely.
no subject
You know, when he first got his attorney's badge, he presented it to me just like that? Heh, he even convinced me to put the GYAXA logo on my visor! [He moves a hand up as if to tilt said visor downward, but... yeah, no visor. It's still really weird to not feel it there.] To show everyone I'm a proud member of... [His smile falters a bit, though he tries not to let it break his stride.] Or... was a proud member of the team.
no subject
You had it right the first time, Clay. Even in spirit, you're one of them. From what I see, they all hold onto your memory dearly.
no subject
After that, he smiles again, this time in a softer way.]
... Thanks, Mist - ... Phoenix. [He glances away and lifts one hand to trace his thumb along his nose where the bandage would be - it's also weird not to feel that there - before lowering it again.] I'm... glad some part of me's still alive there.
no subject
You're welcome. I know what it's like to lose someone who's close to me. And I know to me, she's never really gone. So I know it's the same for Apollo and your friends at the space center. All of you guys are fine.
no subject
no subject
I'll try to run that by them. In the meantime, I'm sure that Apollo will be glad to know that you're fine, Clay. [He's sure that 'fine' won't sound like a real word anymore when the whole meeting's said and done.]
no subject
Oh man, I've got so much to talk to him about! So - You think he's going to get here soon? [Aaand now he's looking for a place to hide, somewhere that isn't obvious right from the get-go. Maybe behind the couch?] I don't want to wear out this body too much or anything, she already gave so much just by letting this happen...
no subject
As for Apollo... It should be any minute now.
no subject
I cannot see you, you cannot see me, I am hidden. Although the pretzel of Pearl's hair might be sticking out just a bit.]
no subject
Mr. Wright, I think you got your days wrong, because the lady at the register said there were no special deal for weenies on Wednesdays.
[Yet another errand that did nothing but waste time. He really shouldn't be surprised when Wright does this. As he closed the door behind him and walked into the office, he noticed the familiar pretzel shaped hair behind the couch.]
...Is that Pearls behind the couch? (I didn't know she was visiting today.)
no subject
That could have been my mistake, Apollo. It might actually be Weenie Thursday, not Weenie Wednesday.
Pearls? [He follows Apollo's line of sight to the couch, wondering if the surprise is blown, but then he sees it. The telltale pretzel strikes again...
He turns his attention back to Apollo.]
You see, it's not exactly Pearls... [He'll leave it up to Clay if he'll reveal himself now.]
no subject
He's almost afraid his cover is blown, but once Phoenix gives the cue, he grins, then jumps up, arms out and spread wide once he lands on his feet.]
Hey hey, Mr. Lawyer! What's shakin'?
[... And he finally, finally finally has Apollo's attention. That fact makes the grin on his face practically ridiculous.]
