This is a voice test for Phoenix Wright of Ace Attorney fame! Feel free to throw people here.

Some general guidelines:

-I'm primarily testing him with a Dual Destinies canon point. I still am welcoming of a few prompts for earlier time periods and possibly AUs, though, as long as they don't dominate. (Except that I don't think I can brain Hobo!Phoenix at this time)
-Nothing really explicitly shippy; I don't think I even have any shipping preferences with him just yet. But general fluff is fine.
-I'm not exactly sure about specific kinds of scenarios I'd like to play beyond one: working to unlock someone's Psych-Locks? And maybe emotional canon talks.
-Feel free to plunder the Random Scenario Meme for ideas (Leaving out sex of course)? I also welcome generic jamjar scenarios and text message threads.

[Somehow I'm not surprised Larry has run into trouble with these...these things.]

[Edgeworth takes the single sheet from his trapped hand and places it onto the stack of files. He stares hard at the trap, the contraption that found its way into his files. If a glare could burn, the Chinese finger trap would be on fire right now.]

How did one find its way into my files...and how did Larry free himself?

Either you have yourself a prankster, or this is some very unusual evidence that's been misplaced.

As for Larry... [He looks away a bit as he tries to remember.] I think he always had to get a teacher to cut it open with scissors. But then again, it's Larry. There's supposed to be some kind of trick to getting your finger out.]

[prosecutory]

[Edgeworth stands up from his desk and attempts to tug his finger out. Predictably, pulling only makes the material stretch, and as he begins pulling harder and more abruptly, Phoenix might want to watch his balance.]

Nnngh...what sort of trick? [His eyes widen as the next thing he finds is an evidence tag. What sort of case would involve a Chinese finger trap??]

[bewrightback]

[He does stagger for a moment before he starts trying to maintain his balance.]

Hang on, I'm trying to remember! [He presses his free hand to his chin in thought.] I think it had to do with... pushing both of the fingers towards the center? Larry could never get it to work right, but must be a way of loosening the grip.

[prosecutory]

[He stops pulling, at least, and listens to Phoenix. Edgeworth doesn't have much of a choice because this is his only lead.]

Should we push our fingers toward the center at the same time?

[bewrightback]

Sure! Why not. Count of three?

[prosecutory]

All right, one...two...three!

[He shoves his finger into the center of the trap at "three".]

[bewrightback]

[He counts along and then shoves his own finger in.]

Take that! [He can't help but say it, and then he moves to pull it out. Is it successful?]

[prosecutory]

[Edgeworth feels the woven material loosen around his finger. This time, he manages to pull his finger away without dragging Phoenix along with it. With that, he slips the trap off his finger and lets it fall onto his desk.

He sighs, rubbing his freed finger. Now he can point normally again! Then he picks up the item to examine the evidence tag attached to it.]

Unfortunately, this doesn't solve the mystery of how the Chinese finger trap found its way into my files when it should be filed with those related to the FT-2 Incident...a case I didn't even handle.

[And now Phoenix's finger is liberated! He looks it over with a relieved smile. Yes! My objecting finger!]

Who did handle it? Maybe there's a clue there. Or, maybe it really was a prank after all. [They both have mischievous sidekicks, after all.]

[prosecutory]

I don't know; I just know that if I had a case involving an item like this, I would have remembered it. [And remembered the proper term for it.]

[He squints at the evidence tag.]

The tag looks rather...new. [Then he offers it to Phoenix so he can take a gander at it.]

[bewrightback]

A new tag? So it's some case you're unaware of. [He holds it in his hand and looks it over, then he goes on flatly as he ponders a possibility.]

Don't tell me there's been another colorful new addition to the prosecutor's office... [I was looking forward to spending the next few months not being eccentrically harassed in court.]

[prosecutory]

Yes, I am unaware of this case. Neither am I aware of any new prosecutors as of late. [Or someone just hasn't given him the memo if there HAS been a new prosecutor around ready to torture Phoenix.

However, a very, very, VERY close look at the tag will reveal a tiny dab of chocolate icing, and a sniff will yield the smell of Swiss rolls...]

That's odd. [Then again, they do have a habit of popping up from nowhere.

Still, something about that tag bothers him and he examines it more closely. Could it be... the smell of Swiss rolls?! This... this...!

...This means absolutely nothing to him.]

It looks like our culprit has a sweet tooth...

[prosecutory]

A sweet tooth? [He snatches the Chinese finger trap from Phoenix abruptly. Edgeworth squints at the tag, and catches...yes, that unmistakable smell of...

Aha!]

Eureka!

[Hope you weren't startled by Edgeworth yelling, Phoenix. Because he already has a suspect in mind.]

[Only a little startled. Only a little.

When did Edgeworth start making his own catchphrases?]

Are you planning to share with the class, or...?

[prosecutory]

[Since he achieved protag status just like you, Phoenix. Try to keep up.

Anyway, he taps his finger against his temple in true my-brain-is-awesome fashion, grinning.]

I know who our culprit is. Her name is Kay Faraday, and she has always enjoyed the courthouse's Swiss rolls since she was a child.

[Teenage assistants, they come with protag status. Really, Phoenix. update yourself.]

[And Phoenix gapes in classic 'what is your brain even' fashion.]

Kay Faraday...? [Faraday. I know I've read the name somewhere before...] Does this girl have something against you?

[Sorry Miles, he's too busy to keep up with your adventures over in Cameo Land, where he enjoys his precious last months of pre-disbarment life.]

[prosecutory]

Hmph, nothing of the sort. [A shake of the head, a smirk, and a sound rather like a short chuckle. Tsk tsk, you must get out more often, Phoenix.] Her intentions, whatever they may be, are most likely mischievous but harmless.

[bewrightback]

I can understand that. [Note to self: never introduce this girl to Maya.]

So what are you going to do now? Don't tell me you're going to throw the book at her. [He does sound more fond of her than he does of most humanity, but that's not saying much.]

[prosecutory]

No.

[A pause. Also, the thing with teenage assistants is that they grow on you. Slowly. Eventually. After barging into your life and shaking it up and ducklinging you everywhere.]

But she will receive a brief lecture about planting "false" evidence. [Is she trying to steal valuable time I could be using to peruse the rest of my case files?]

[bewrightback]

[And Edgeworth's heart grew about 1.5 sizes on that day...]

I actually think that's a good idea. Innocent pranks are one thing, but false evidence is serious business. [IF ONLY YOU KNEW] Even she has to learn that.

[prosecutory]

Indeed. One would think that as the daughter of a prosecutor, she would know this very well, but another reminder can't hurt.

[Especially when such childish whims override that knowledge.]

[bewrightback]

You know kids these days. Sometimes it takes a few goes for a lesson to sink in...

[Like Larry, the most difficult child of all to deal with...]

So her father was a prosecutor? I'm sure I read about a prosecutor named Faraday somewhere...

[prosecutory]

Correct. His name was Byrne Faraday.

[His expression becomes somber as he recalls the details of that case...most prominently the part where Kay lost her father.]

I was supposed to take over a trial he was handling...but he and the defendant were found murdered in a defendant lobby.
